We are going to begin our studies with what, in my opinion, are the two most important things in the Word. “The Cross and The Covenants”
These are Covenants or Promises that God made with His people, Israel, and carried on into a covenant with the Gentile people through His Son and what He did at the Cross.
There were many Covenants made between God and man but we will only study the main ones.
THE CROSS AND THE COVENANTS
I. Adamic Covenant (or) The Covenant with Adam
Adamic….made in the image of God….Perfection….Company for God
[Access to God…broken when Adam sinned]
Noah….a righteous man….saved from the flood….sign of the rainbow
[The earth would never be destroyed by water again]
III. Abrahamic Covenant (or) The covenant with Abraham
Abrahamic Covenant….circumcision….millions of descendants
[Through Isaac, his son, would come many generations]
[They would also inherit all the land of Israel]
IV. Mosaic Covenant (or) The Covenant with Moses
Mosaic…lead the people out of Egypt…bless and not curse…enter the promised land…..given the Ten Commandments.
[broken when Moses disobeyed and got angry]
V. Davidic Covenant (or) The Covenant with David
Davidic…Chosen to be king of Israel….Anointed by Samuel…
[David’s descendants would be on the throne forever]
(Queen Elizabeth can trace her line back to the Davidic line)
[From David’s line would come The Messiah….Jesus
VI. Messianic Covenant (or) The Covenant of the Messiah
Messianic….New Testament….Jesus….The Cross….The Messiah
Although there are many more Covenants in the Old Testament, there is
Only one in the New Testament….The Cross….A new and better covenant….connects and restores all the others !
It comes through Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God and the only way you get to God is through Jesus.
Jesus did not become our sins at the cross but He became the Sacrifice for our sins and that is why we must go through Him to get to the Father.
A Covenant is a …Promise…A vow…An Agreement
