WHAT IS SALVATION
College Dictionary: Salvation is Deliverance from the Power and Penalty of sin.
The Power of sin is that we cannot get control over it ourselves.
The Bible says…It is by Grace, not of works, lest any one should boast. It is a gift…(In other words, we cannot earn salvation since it is offered to us as a gift by unmerited favor from God.)
John 3:16…For God so loved the world (sinners) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should have life everlasting.
The Penalty of sin is complete separation from the presence of God. We receive salvation by Faith or if we do what the Word tells us to do, we have the faith that we will be saved.
When we say saved, we mean saved from Hell through repentance of our sins and also saved out of the Great Tribulation by the return of Jesus Christ for His people at the Rapture.
(Romans 6:22,23) But now, being made free from sin, you have become servants of God.
For the wages of sin is death (and I believe this is Spiritual Death) as the Penalty or wages of sin is complete separation from God but the Gift of God (Salvation) is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
How do we receive Salvation? Just like we receive anything else from God…by Faith.
What is Faith? Being absolutely sure and certain that something is true without any proof!
(Ephesians 2:8&9) For by Grace (unearned favor) are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a Gift of God. Not of works. Lest any man should boast.
I like the translation from “THE BOOK” the best: God saved you by His special favor when you believed and you can’t take credit for this, as it is a Gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done so no one can brag about it!
We, and the Bible too, use different names for salvation but all mean pretty much the same thing. Salvation is also Repentance, which means to turn around and go in the opposite direction. In other words, when you ask Jesus to forgive your sins, you do not keep on sinning nor doing the same old thing! Your LIFE must change and YOU must change as you have turned around and are going in a different direction. You are no longer sinning, but living Christ-like.
Don’t expect God to do it all. The Word says…YOU put off the OLD MAN and YOU put on the NEW.
