II.  NAMES OF DEMONS, INCLUDING SATAN…BEFORE AND AFTER THE FALL 
 

BEFORE THE FALL

(1)             Lucifer…meaning…Day Star or Son of the Morning

                  [Isaiah 14:12/15]

(2)             The Cherub that Covereth

          [Ezekiel 28:11/19]

AFTER THE FALL

    Because of PRIDE he became known as… [Isaiah 14:16/19]

(1)             Satan…The Adversary….Chief evil spirit

(2)             Accuser of the Brethren…[Revelation 12:10]

(3)             Devil…The supreme spirit of evil…Boss [Rev. 12/12]

(a)             A wicked, cruel, ill-tempered “person”

(b)             A person of great cleverness, energy, recklessness

(4)             Dragon...A monster...variously represented (or who can

                  change itself. A fierce, violent person. [Rev. 12:13]

(5)             Serpent…Deceiver…or like a snake...[Rev. 12:15]

(a)             Wiley, treacherous, malicious, cunning, sly and sneaky.

There is one who is the King over the demons in the bottomless pit.

   (Also known as the Abyss)  [Rev. 9:11]

Hebrew…Ab/a/don…means Destruction

Greek…A/pol/ly/on…means the destroyer…Fierce and a FARCE.

(a)     Fierce…wild in temper...Violent in force, savage, cruel, brutal, murderous. 

(b)     FARCE….foolish show-off, mockery, and a sham.

[Mark 5:1/9]

This is the story of the Gaderene, who was possessed of an evil spirit. He lived in the tombs
and could not be bound with fetters or chains. He was always screaming and often would cut
himself with stones.

The Main demon that possessed him and was captain over all the others that possessed him, was
called LEGION…A large body of armed men….any great host or multitude of persons or things.

But we have a Name above all other Names….JESUS
It has more power than any other name under the sun!

 (Verse 6) Notice what the demons did

                They RAN and worshiped Him

(verse8) Notice what Jesus called them

                 An UNCLEAN spirit

[Revelation 12:3,4]

When satan was cast out of the third heaven into the second heaven, he took a third
part of the angels with him. These are the fallen angels or demons.

[Luke 10:18]

    Jesus….still human…saw this. 

As satan has access to the third heaven (as our accuser) he also has access to the earth.

    [Ephesians 4:26,27]  [Job 1:7…..Job 2:1,2]

[I need to interject here….There are at least Three Heavens.]

There is the heaven we can see …stars, moon, sun and etc.  The second heaven is
where satan and all of his demons reside at this time since his fall from the third heaven.

The third heaven is where God dwells.

The Apostle Paul talks about going to the third heaven and seeing things he could not
even talk about. [2^nd Corinthians 12:2]

As we can invite (or give place to) the Holy Spirit into our hearts and lives, we can also,
by sinning or following some wrong teaching, give place to the devil.  This will usually happen
when we get angry and stay angry, gossip, lie or be spiteful.  [Ephesians 4:26,27….24/32]

 (This falls into the category of Demon Possession, which we will get into later in the lesson.)

 [1^st Peter 5:8,9]

Peter tells us to be watchful (be alert at all times) and to be wise, because our adversary
(enemy) the devil paces (stalks like a lion) hunting out those he may destroy (or possess).

 >>>As Peter is talking to the Christian, this tells me there are some Christians out
there that can be possessed, devoured and destroyed if we don’t stay alert.
