(T is silent) [Jeremiah 23: 5&6]
[Genesis 2:7]
You are a spirit, with a soul, living in a body.
EL-O-HIM (plural…Father, Son, Holy Spirit) created the body with a soul (brain). Then God breathed into mans nostrils and man became a living soul!
His body could move and his brain became a mind.
His spirit became his conscience AND his consciousness.
(1) Conscience…The internal recognition of right and wrong
(2) Consciousness…Knowledge of ones own existence
At our death, the Spirit goes back to God and our body goes back to the earth from where it was formed .
In the first part of this lesson we will be looking into the Old Testament…Under Law…Works.
In the second part we will be looking into the New Testament…Under Grace….No Works.
[Genesis 3:8]…Adam walked with God…Everything was ok!
3:10…Adam feared God
3:21…The first Blood Sacrifice….Covering for sin
3:24…Adam was separated from God because of
disobedience.
Adam died a SPIRITUAL DEATH and would have to sacrifice every year for the sins he committed and it would have to be a Blood Sacrifice….The killing of sheep and bulls and offered on an altar to God.
This Blood Sacrifice would continue until Jesus was sacrificed.
It will return when the Temple is built once again in Jerusalem and it will continue until Jesus returns to earth.
Now we come to Moses who received the laws on Mount Sinai and gave them to the Jewish people after God wrote them on tablets with His finger.
Everything that Moses does Under the Law is parallel to what Jesus does Under Grace.
Moses was sent to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (a type of sin) to the Promised Land (a type of salvation).
[Exodus 25]
God told Moses to build the ARK OF THE COVENANT
(1) Ark…A place of safety…Remember Noah…Heaven
(2) Covenant…An agreement…New Covenant is Jesus
The ARK is to be built exactly as God says!
The Ark (place of safety) is to be made out of shittum wood (known for it’s strength and durability).
The TABLE for the Ark is to be overlaid with Gold ( all that is costly and precious).
Into this Ark, Moses was to put the Testimony.
[Ex. 25:21] [ Ex. 32:15&16] [Deuteronomy 4:13/14] [Duet.10:4/5]
THE TESTIMONY is the two tablets of stone.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
As a covering for the Ark, Moses was to make a Mercy Seat…altar of pardon…to cover or to place over the Ark of the Commandments.
As a cover for the Mercy Seat, he was to make two Cherubims (angel guards) at either end of the Mercy Seat.
Their wings were to be out-stretched and touching to cover the Mercy Seat and God would speak to Moses Above all this. In other words, God’s voice would come from above the Mercy Seat.
These Cherubims are the same kind of angels that guard Eden!
[Ex. 25:23]
Moses was then to make a table of shittum wood (strong and durable) and it was to be 2 cubits long, 1 cubit wide and 1 and a half cubits high. [a cubit was the forearm measure,( 17 to 21 in.) so the Table would have been 42”long x 21” wide x 31&1/2” high.
[verse 30]
He was to place the (shew-bread) on the Table so it was before God continually.
SHEW-BREAD…Literally means “Bread of Presence”
It consisted of 12 loaves of bread, placed in 2 rows and was displayed on the Table in the Holy Place before God always. The bread was changed every Sabbath and the priests ate the old loaves.
The 12 loaves of bread represented the 12 tribes of Israel.
These 12 loaves set in the presence of Jehovah, signified, the constant Communion of His people with Him.
After Moses built the Tabernacle and The Ark of the Covenant, God gave him certain sacrifices that were to be observed (or kept).
For our purpose in this lesson, we are interested in the Sin-offering
(or the sacrifice)……….[Leviticus 16:6]
Aaron (the brother of Moses) was the High Priest of the Tabernacle and had to offer (sacrifice) a lamb for the covering of his own sins…once every year…before he could sacrifice for the sins of the people.
No one could enter THE HOLIES OF HOLIES, which was behind the second veil in the Temple, except Aaron, the High Priest.
After he had sacrificed the Lamb for the people’s sins, he was to take the Blood and sprinkle it ON the Mercy Seat,…Signifying Jesus on the Cross…and BEFORE (in front of) the Mercy Seat…
Signifying people who would believe in the future.
[Leviticus 16:21&22]
Aaron was then to take a live goat and place all of the sins of the people on the goat and send it into the wilderness where no one lived.
This is where we get the phrase SCAPE GOAT. A type of Jesus as
Someone who takes the blame for things even though they are not guilty.
After Aaron did this, he was to wash himself and remove all his clothes, which were dirty.( the sins of the people)
[verse 30]
On the day the Atonement or (reconciliation) was made, everyone was clean and sinless before God until the next year.
[This was all Under Law…..Works]
NEW TESTAMENT……..UNDER GRACE………NO WORKS
New Blood Covenant……..Unmerited Favor….[Ephesians 2:4/9]
SECOND SACRIFICE….MAN……[Matthew 27:31]
Jesus…..For the remission of sins
Remission….To pardon or forgive an offense
The putting aside or letting go of a
Payment or Obligation.
As Moses was sent to lead the children of God out of Egypt and into the Promised Land; so Jesus was sent to lead the children out of Sin unto Salvation.
Jesus is the New and Better Covenant.
[Romans 10:4/5&9/10] Jesus is our Ark of safety
[John 1:29] He became our Sacrificial Lamb to remit our sins
[Hebrews 7:3,22,24/28] He is all that is strong and enduring
[1st Peter 2:4&7] He is more precious than the gold used in
The Tabernacle
[1st Samuel 15:22] He is our Testimony...His Commandments we obey.
Heb. 7:24/27] He became our Mercy Seat. (our seat of pardon)
[1st Peter 2:9&10]
[Ephesians 4:30] As the Cherubims guard the Mercy Seat,
so the Holy Ghost guards us.
God spoke to Moses ABOVE the Mercy Seat
God speaks to us through Jesus Christ
As Moses was to make a table for the Shew-Bread
Jesus gave us Communion…..[Luke 22:19&20]
Aaron, the High Priest, offered a sacrifice for his sins and the sins of the people once a year until he died….[Heb. 10:1/4]
Jesus Christ offered Himself…..[John 10:17&18]
Only Once for the sins of everybody….[Heb. 9:24/28…10:9&10]
PAST………PRESENT……..FUTURE SINS…[Romans 5:6&8/11]
Matt.27:50,51]
As only Aaron could enter into the Holy of Holies (or the second veil), when Christ died, the veil was torn (opened to us)
[Heb.6:18/20] When He shed His Blood, we gained entrance into the Holy of Holies or The Throne Room!
As Aaron was to take a live goat (scape-goat) that carried the sins and temptations of the people into the wilderness, so Jesus became our “scape-goat”. [Matt. 4:1] [Isaiah 53: 4,5,10]
Aaron was to wash and put on clean clothes after the sacrifice.
[Zechariah 3:1/4] This is a picture of Jesus after His death and Resurrection.
with God by the torn veil, salvation was possible for everyone who would believe and trust that Jesus was the Son of God and also our Savior and Lord!
This salvation will be possible and on-going until He comes back to set up His Kingdom on earth!
