JEHOVAH  NISSI….THE LORD OUR BANNER OR STANDARD

(BANNER…a long tapering sign or flag as of a King, raised on a pole to indicate the starting point of a war)

[Isaiah 59:19]

So shall they fear the Name of the Lord from the west and His Glory from the rising of the sun. (or East)  When the enemy shall come in,

Like a flood the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a STANDARD against him.

Why do we need a banner with the name of a King on it?

[Ephesians 6:12]

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood (humans) but against

Principalities, powers, against the rulers of darkness (demons) of this world. Against spiritual wickedness in high places (the second heaven where satan and his demons reside)

How does JEHOVAH  NISSI raise this banner as our King?

[Colossians 2:14&15]

He blotted out the law that was against us (sin) taking it away when He was nailed to the cross. He also spoiled the principalities and powers and showed openly that He could triumph over them.

In the Old Testament [exodus] Moses is leading the children of Israel through the wilderness. They have been there for 40 years!            

(incidentally)

They have been going in circles all that time, going around the same mountain. They were only 11 miles from the nearest town!

This ought to show you how many times God will…let you go through something…take you through something…until you get it right!

[Exodus 17:1]

Moses is now bringing them out of the wilderness of SIN.

As they.. journeyed...The Lord tells them where He wants them to pitch their tents.

They do so but there is no water!

[verses 5&6] THEN COMES JEHOVAH  NISSI

What He is trying to tell us is that as we journey in our Christian life we are going to have battles to fight. Some of them will be with people but most of them will be spiritual battles.

But we have a banner, a standard, a flag carrier and His name is JEHOVAH  NISSI!

[Proverbs 3:5,6,7]

This is the way that we get Him to stand in front of all our battles with satan.

[Ephesians 6:13…Exodus 17:8 thro’ 16]

When we have done all that is humanly possible (and God expects that of us) then JUST STAND.

For Jesus will take over then or send someone who will!

[1^st Peter 5:8,9]

This scripture tells us that we need to be wise and aware as our enemy (satan) is like a stalking lion looking for Christians to devour.

Don’t ever think you are above a spiritual battle and don’t ever think you won’t need help. Evidently, from this verse, there are some Christians that satan can devour so he seeks them out.

In this case who or what is our JEHOVAH  NISSI?

THE NAME OF JESUS

Remember what we were going to learn?  The POWER that is in a name.]

Why is the name of Jesus so powerful!

I am going to give you a few more names that will not be in our study but only to show why the name of Jesus moves mountains.

OMNI MEANS ALL   (Latin) 

[REVELATION 5:6]….[MATTHEW 28:20]

[LUKE 2:40,47,52]…[HEBREWS 4:13]…[PHIL.2:9/11 

The name of Jesus has unlimited power and authority, so always make sure of the name you need to use. If you can’t think of it then just use the name of Jesus. This is much better than using the wrong name for the wrong situation!

JEHOVAH  NISSI is to be used when we need a banner to show satan who is BOSS.

I’m going to show you what happens when you use this authority in the wrong way and also in the right way.

WRONG:………[Acts 19: 11 thro’ 16]

The apostle Paul has just came to Ephesus and begins to preach and to do miracles in the name of Jesus. He heals the sick and also casts out demons.

There are certain Jews there (excorists) who are watching all of this. So they take it upon themselves to try and do the same thing Paul is doing, forgetting they do not know Jesus and therefore cannot use His name with any authority.

These Jews are the seven sons of Sce-va, who is the High Priest.

They begin to try and cast out evil spirits by saying, “we command you in the name of Jesus WHOM PAUL PREACHES.

Then the evil spirits say to them that they know Paul and they know Jesus BUT WHO ARE YOU?

Then the man who had the evil spirit overcame them, tore off their clothes so they ran from the house naked!

Don’t ever try to do this if you don’t know what you are doing.

Get into the Word and find out how to do it or you might be in more trouble than you think!

RIGHT………[1^st Samuel 17:45,46,47]

The Israelites are fighting with the Philistines and the Philistines send out their champion named Goliath, who is a giant. The Israelites have no one that can fight this giant. He makes fun not only of them but he also blasphemes their God.

Then comes David!

He tells Goliath that he has come at him with sword and spears and also has defied David's God.

Now David comes against Goliath in the NAME OF THE LORD OF HOSTS.

[OH THE POWER IN A NAME]

David defeats Goliath and when the Philistines see this they all flee.

[verse 33]

Men said…HE’S TOO BIG TO FIGHT

David said...HE'S TOO BIG TO MISS 

You are going to have Giants in your life. Learn to face them with the right name.
